Postgres

deployable todaymerges

The conformance oracle. `ON CONFLICT` merge, transactional.

Ingest lands typed, deduplicated tables in Postgres from any API it connects, including Abilene TX 311, Albany NY 311, Ann Arbor MI 311 and Anne Arundel County MD 311. You own the Postgres account and the credentials; Ingest keeps no copy of the data.

Every destination receives the same layout; see the tables Ingest creates.

Setup

Before you start

You need an existing database and its administrator. Allow 184.193.60.160/32 and 44.194.102.221/32 on your Postgres port. Use a publicly reachable endpoint, usually port 5432. This form cannot configure an SSH tunnel.

1. Create a login

  • As an administrator, replace your_db with your existing database's name and replace-with-a-strong-password with a new password for the ingest login, then run: CONNECT allows login. CREATE permits pipeline and test schemas. Ingest does not need superuser. Existing schemas owned by someone else need separate grants.
CREATE ROLE ingest LOGIN PASSWORD 'replace-with-a-strong-password';
GRANT CONNECT, CREATE ON DATABASE your_db TO ingest;

2. Build the connection URL

  • In this URL, replace your-host with your database server's hostname, 5432 with its port, your_db with your database name, and your-encoded-password with the new password, URL-encoded. Keep sslmode=require. Get the hostname and port from your administrator or database provider's connection details. URL-encode special password characters; @ becomes %40. sslmode=require encrypts traffic. Follow your provider's requirements for certificate and hostname verification.
postgresql://ingest:your-encoded-password@your-host:5432/your_db?sslmode=require
  • Paste the full URL into Connection string at the bottom. Stored as a secret. To change a saved host or database, create a new destination.

3. Test the connection

  • Click Test & configure at the bottom. Writes and reads temporary data, checks pipeline state, then attempts cleanup. Review any cleanup warning. If the test fails, fix the reported problem and choose Test again.

Staging

The worker sends data directly to Postgres. No staging bucket is required.

Conformance

Every adapter passes the same suite before it ships: create a table with every canonical type, append 100k rows, atomic replace, merge (latest dedup_sort wins; child tables delete-then-insert by root id), schema evolution, NULL-key rejection, package replay without duplicates, state and schema round-trip, row-count read-back, identifier edge cases, double-underscored table names (__quarantine, child tables), and rollback on a mid-load failure.

Questions

Can Ingest load data into Postgres?
Yes. Postgres is live on Ingest's hosted service: the adapter passes all 15 conformance cases against the real service, and the setup steps are on this page.
Does Ingest merge into Postgres, or only append?
Postgres merges on the resource's primary key, so re-running a sync updates existing rows rather than duplicating them. Append and full replace are available per resource.
What does Ingest need to connect to Postgres?
Connection string. Secrets are entered in a form, never in a chat, and held in a secret store under your own path: only the key names ever reach Ingest's database.
Which sources can Ingest load into Postgres?
